Why people leave and nobody knows the reason
A good employee resigns, and the manager is surprised. The exit interview says "a better offer". The company counts one turnover figure for everyone, so it cannot see that half of the leavers go in their first six months or that one department loses three times more people than the others. Without the reason, every retention measure is a guess: a raise for those who would stay anyway and nothing for those who are already looking.
What changes after this course
You count turnover by segments and see where the problem is. You ask people who leave and people who stay, and you can read the answers. You have a conversation for a counteroffer and for a salary request. You bring management a business case with a calculation and not a feeling. And you work with what holds people before they decide to go: engagement, the experience of the first months, the manager and wellbeing.

Who is teaching
I am Mike, the #1 HR instructor on Udemy, with 1,800,000+ course enrollments from 170,000 students, and the author of about 200 books on Amazon. I built the people system at Preply as it became a unicorn and worked at Wargaming, iDeals and Alfa-Bank across 20 years in HR. I hold PHRi, SHRM-CP and HCI sHRBP certifications and represent HRCI in Eastern Europe.
One of the first things I did at the STB television channel was to take a year of turnover statistics and split it by tenure. Turnover was about 30 percent, and more than half of those people left in less than six months. It was like carrying water in a sieve: you hire a person, the manager starts to rely on them, and they go. Then I split turnover by department and at once saw one department that stood out sharply from the rest, and another where everything was fine and there was no need to interfere. Over the following years turnover went down by about five points a year, to 14 to 18 percent. For the 2,000 employees we grew to, that meant about 400 fewer vacancies for recruiting.
How to use the course
Watch the first six sections in order: they take you from the turnover number to a retention programme and its report. Then open the section for your task: engagement, employee experience, analytics, surveys or wellbeing. Section and lecture titles show how many tools are inside, and each lecture description lists them by name.
